National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) have released the data for 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2015.  For the first time it shows the number of people receiving treatment for both alcohol and drugs due to the high cross over between the two groups.  This research shows that overall rates of recovery are slowing, largely due to long term entrenched opiate users remaining within the treatment system.  A total of 64% of non opiate users completed treatment, followed by 61% of alcohol users whilst only 30% of opiate users did so.  The issue of great concern is the rise in deaths for those in contact with treatment services, which has risen by 42% and is now at its highest since records began in 1993.
