There is always a great deal of discussion in my training and lectures on child and adolescent development regarding attachment theory. Early poor attachment is blamed for everything, from poor parenting to drink driving. Whilst this idea often dominates the field there is little evidence to support it and it often lacks any clear definition of what is meant by attachment and how it effects later life.
